Food Stamp Program
The Food Stamp Program helps low-income individuals buy food.
To apply for the Food Stamp Program, you must complete the application for Food Stamp benefits. You can drop off, mail, fax or complete an application at a Family Support Division (FSD) office.
In most cases, you will need to complete an interview and provide or help FSD get the requested documentation in order to process your Food Stamp application. You will typically know if you are eligible for Food Stamp benefits within 30 days. In some emergency cases, you can get Food Stamp benefits in seven days or less. To see if this applies to you, please review Section 2 of the Food Stamp application. You may also tell FSD the questions in this section apply to you when you submit your application.
You will receive an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card if needed upon approval for Food Stamp benefits. Food Stamp benefits will be loaded to the card when the application is approved. This card is how you will receive and use your Food Stamp or Temporary Assistance benefits. Food Stamp benefits can only be used to buy food and food products including seeds and plants to grow food. Food Stamp benefits cannot be used to purchase:
- Hot prepared foods;
- Foods prepared to be immediately eaten;
- Vitamins, medicine, supplements; or
- Non-food items such as paper products, soap, or pet food.
Food Distribution Programs
The Family Support Division (FSD) provides food to help improve the nutritional status of children and needy adults. FSD provides for the distribution of USDA-donated foods to summer food service programs for children, disaster relief, and six non-profit food banks that provide emergency food assistance to food pantries and community groups feeding those in need.
The SkillUP program offers Food Stamp recipients in Missouri the opportunity to gain skills, training and work experience. SkillUP is offered at no cost to the participant and helps promote employability and self-sufficiency.
