Ambulance Place of Service Codes


Ambulance providers must utilize the appropriate MO HealthNet place of service (POS) code when submitting claims. The place of service is the destination of the ambulance trip.

The following are appropriate MO HealthNet POS codes for ambulance services that result in a transport:

  • 21-Inpatient Hospital 
  • 23-Emergency Room—Hospital
  • 26-Military Treatment Facility
  • 51-Inpatient Psychiatric Facility
  • 53-Community Mental Health Center
  • 55-Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Facility
  • 56-Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center
  • 61-Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital

POS codes 41 (land) and 42 (air/water) are Medicare codes and are not valid MO HealthNet POS codes.
